Steam Holiday Sale

image

Every year I end up buying myself a little something for Christmas. Maybe it’s something that’s not on my list (like a CD or comic) and maybe it’s one of those one day deals that I just can’t pass up (like my 30GB Zune). This year was different though. My company was bought out by another company and our paychecks were on a different bi-weekly schedule. From an accounting and tax point of view December is a great time to fix this little snafu. Not a great time if you’re living paycheck to paycheck like me though. Lucky for me though, the Steam Holiday Sale is hear to bail me out with fun games and easy on the wallet prices!

The problem with the sale, well not a problem with Steam, is that there are so many cheap little games they’re instantly justifiable. Oh sure, I’ll pick Lumines up for $3 since it’s on sale and looks fun. Also nostalgia kicked in when I bought the Commander Keen complete package. Then there was the purchase that didn’t really even make sense to me at the time. Battlefield 2 for $8, I’ll get it for when I have a computer that can run games. Yeah, I’m even picking up games for the future!

It’s a lot of fun though and because they announce the daily sales at noon EST, I have a reason to be excited and get back to the office after lunch. When was the last time that happened? I really enjoyed the Steam Holiday sale but for me it’s pretty much over. There’s really only one game I’m thinking of picking up but I doubt it’ll be on a daily sale and even though it’s at a discounted 30 something percent off I don’t know if I’ll get it. I’m still playing Modern Warfare 2 and I just got Left 4 Dead 2 for Christmas.

Still working out the kinks.

Ugh, there goes a long blog post about the ongoing Steam Holiday Sale. I just downloaded Windows Live Writer as I’ve read great things about how it makes blogging easy and I really enjoy it so far, except for when I clicked the “preview” button and the program just closed without saving or doing anything else.

Man, that really stinks! I’m going to have to get used to this, but it looks like I’ll be blogging more often, and that’s always a good thing!

Well it’s time for bed now, I’ve got a lot of work to do still and it all needs to be done by year-end!

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 cover art released

A reliable source sent me the cover art for the new Call of Duty game, Modern Warfare 2. If you've already watched the very short teaser trailer to the game, this cover art should come as no surprise. I think they're going after a completely different demographic this time around, as I thought the original COD4 Modern Warfare appealed to the adult gamer. Its obvious this time they're going after a younger crowd.

Check out the the cover art after the jump!

What I’ve been up to…

So if you haven't noticed, the website hasn't been updated in a while. That's because I've been really busy lately. Monday night was my birthday so I went out with my parents to dinner, then hung out at their house for a while. Tuesday night I went to the Phillies game where we beat the Nationals 7 to 1. Last night I had a friend over and we ate leftover ice cream cake while we watched the Phillies game on TV. Tonight I'll be heading down to Philly for the Electric Six concert at Johnny Brendas (Pics and Review will be posted). Friday and Saturday I'll be at the Phillies game, the first night with my season tickets buddies and on Saturday with the SUPERPOPE. It'll be the SUPERPOPE's first baseball game and I'm really hoping for a win! Sunday I'll be passed out from exhaustion.

So that's what I'll be up to this week, regular updates should resume next week.

Help make the world a better place.

Good buddy, Thom, is participating in this years walk for autism research again. I know the economy really sucks right now but lets try not to forget those that are less fortunate. Thom is a great guy and really cares about this issue, he also is pretty creative and everyone involved with the covers project has a great time.

Here's what Thom has to say (taken from the Mountain Goats forum):

Hey guys,

so, every year i participate in a fundraising walk for autism research. this year, i thought i would take my fundraising efforts to the internet. and, since mountain goats fans have been documented by me to be such cool people, i thought, why not start here on the forums?

but! before you make up your mind either way, you should know about the two deal-sweetening campaigns i am running. there's kind of something for everyone: those who love to hear songs covered poorly by awkward amateur musicians, and one for those who like to make people pay more than they can afford to out of spite. (those ARE the two kinds of people in this world, yes?)

first, the "put your money where your mouth is" campaign: i am withholding my own donation to the fundraiser until the day of the walk, at which point i will match the largest SINGLE donation i receive from an individual. (note the key words single and individual; 6 donations of $50 will not count as $300. also, an employer-matching program does not double your donation amount for purposes of this campaign). this campaign ends at 12:00am eastern time on 6/13/09.

the other campaign is the "For a Song" campaign. in this campaign, i will accept cover requests, record my version of the song, and compile all of the cover versions onto a cd which will be shipped in September to all who donate over $20. this is my third year running a campaign similar to this; songs requested in the past include Justin Timberlake's "sexyback," the cure's "fire in cairo," "the most unwanted song," *nsync's "gone," shearwater's "nobody," phil ochs's "i ain't marching anymore," bob dylan's "if you see her, say hello," lou reed's "dirty blvd.," and patrick swayze's "she's like the wind," among others. there is a bit of a sliding scale here - a particularly difficult or embarrassing song may call for a larger donation than $20, for example. also, if you donate a large amount, i may consider taking multiple requests from you. of course, multiple donations for multiple requests are welcome (and even encouraged!) it'll be fun. it's like yo la tengo when they slaughter the classics for wfmu, except that this is for autism research. oh, and also yo la tengo is actually a group of talented musicians. but other than that, exactly the same.

i can accept donations via check (made out to autism speaks,) but the easiest way is to donate through my online donation center, which is secure and run by kintera.org. if you have an employer that matches charitable donations and need information concerning that, please let me know.

anyway, thanks in advance and i look forward to hopefully receiving lots of ridiculous song requests!
