FLLATT: Embryonic artwork and summer tour dates
Yes, I know the tour dates are on the verge of old news but I've been holding off from posting them because they're not all up on ticketmaster yet.
New "official" artwork for Embryonic has been leaked to the internet via the Flaming Lips MySpace page. I think it looks pretty cool and I'm hoping that the music will be just as interesting, funky and AWESOME as past releases. It seems like it's once again becoming a good time to be a FLips fan, but then again when wasn't it?
Summer tour was announced via the official newsletter that brings the Fearless Freaks right to my backyard. I'm really looking forward to this, so much so that I've been checking ticketmaster three times a day just to see when the tickets go on sale! Not to mention that when you buy your ticket, you'll get a 6 song EP featuring three songs from the new album and three b-side tracks. In addition to all that you'll get a download code to grab the official bootleg of the concert you went to!

FLLATT: New details about Embryonic
According to this recent NME article, the new Flaming Lips album has been pushed back to an autumn release but will still be titled 'Embryonic' and be a two-disc release.
It also seems that the band haven't finished up with the sequence of the tracks or even what to call all the songs "because we want to go in so many strange directions and sometimes we’re unfocused and sometimes we’re just so wishy washy".
FLLATT 8: Soft Bulletin Re-Issue?
In the way of rumors, this is less exciting then the new album (Still titles Embryonic as far as I can tell) but still exciting. It looks like Warner Bros. will be releasing the 10th anniversary edition of The Soft Bulletin on June 23rd. This according to Tiny Mix Tapes. It seems like this will be a double LP on 180g vinyl and maybe a bonus CD. It's hard to tell.
As a fan of the Flaming Lips it's pretty hard to find news about the band (for me at least). While I tried to confirm this I couldn't really find anything... no Amazon pre-orders, no news on the Warner Bros. website and there's been nothing in the way of "news" on the Flaming Lips website since December 22nd 2008! So that's why I'm trying to include as much news about the Flaming Lips as I can on this site.
Some more FLips news:
Proof they're working on a new album.
Recently on Pitchfork I found out that the guys are doing a tribute to Love and Rockets. The album New Tales to Tell: A Tribute to Love and Rockets is going to have bands like A Place to Burry Strangers, Maynard from Tool's other other band Puscifer and also a Black Francis track. The Flaming Lips will be covering the song "Kundalini Express", I can't wait to hear it!
Seems like the guys are busy this summer, with the recording process and the festival concerts!
Soft Bulletin turns 10!
Wow it's been 10 years? Already!?!? The fine folks over at Stereogum have pointed out that 10 years ago this week, one of the greatest rock albums ever was released.
To celebrate Stereogum gathered together seven cover songs from this album. Enjoy!
My favorite song from The Soft Bulletin is "The Gash", what's yours?
